Melbin, not Melbourne.

A while back I ran into this broad who spoke with an accent. She told me she was from Australia and I went on to tell her about an artist who I was distantly familiar with who lived in Melbourne (which I pronounced MEL-BORN, like any other sensible yet ignorant American). She chuckled and corrected me saying “it’s actually pronounced ‘mel-bin’ …!”

That completely blew my mind–super offended on top of that. It’s clearly spelled: M E L B O U R N E… How do you get ‘MELBIN’ out of that!? I scrambled, I needed answers quick! Since my distant cousin Brian McKnight wasnt available for a press statement I hit my internationally-nonignorant homie for answers. He told me “She wasn’t lying. Australians actually get upset when you annunciate it ‘MEL-BORN’. ”

Wow. Mind = Blown.
